Getting the Gospel Right

Galatians 1:1-9 This letter is from Paul. I am a apostle sent by Jesus Christ and God the Father Who raised Jesus from the dead. I am not sent by men or by any one man. All the Christians join me in writing to you who are in the churches in the country of Galatia. May you have grace and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. He gave Himself to die for our sins. He did this so we could be saved from this sinful world. This is what God wanted Him to do. May He have all the honor forever. Let it be so.

I am surprised you are leaving Christ so soon. You were chosen through His grace. But now you are turning and listening to another kind of gospel. No! There is not another kind of gospel. There are some who would like to lead you in the wrong way. They want to change the gospel about Christ. Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach another kind of gospel to you that is not the one we preached, let him be cursed. As we said before, I will say it again. If any man is preaching another gospel to you which is not the one you have received, let him be cursed.

Have you ever been given the wrong directions and gotten frustrated? It causes confusion and often makes you late to your final destination. But those consequences aren’t nearly as devastating as the results of wrong instructions regarding salvation.

We know there are false teachers and religions that claim ways to earn God’s acceptance, but even well-meaning Christians, in their compassion for the lost, at times present an incomplete gospel. This can happen if believers lose sight of the main goal and simply try to help an individual overcome problems. But lost people don’t need fixing; they need life because they’re spiritually dead (At one time you were dead because of your sins. Eph. 2:1).

Scripture is clear about how we’re to be saved: When we trust in the Savior’s atoning sacrifice on our behalf, we don’t simply add Jesus to our life—a new nature replaces the old sinful one, and we become a brand-new creation. Jesus completely exchanges His life for our deadness.

Let’s not forget the fact that unbelievers’ spirits are dead, and they can’t do anything to bring themselves to life. Salvation is the only way, and regeneration happens solely by God’s grace through faith in Christ. May the Lord guide us to present the whole truth to those who need it.
