The LORD passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The LordThe God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations.” Exodus 34:6,7

Relate: The reading today moved me. Perhaps I am influenced by the approach of Valentine’s Day, but I was captivated by the depth of love God displays to a selfish, flawed, and broken people.

I was reminded yet again that the Bible is one big love story. It is God’s love story with mankind. This is something we can often lose sight of in our daily study and our efforts to live the Christian life. Even the religious leaders of the day were the ones who hated Jesus to the point of wanting him dead. It isn’t surprising, then, that we forget or miss the main point sometimes.
