Do You Hear What I Hear?

Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. (Revelation 2:7 NLT)

Relate:  Said the little lamb to the shepherd boyDo you hear what I hear/(do you hear what I hear)/Ringing through the sky shepherd boy/Do you hear what I hear /(do hear what I hear)/A song, a song/High above the trees/With a voice as big as the sea/With a voice as big as the sea

I have wondered why on earth the lamb is asking the shepherd boy if he hears what he hears. If it is ringing through the sky-with a voice as big as the sea, wouldn’t it be obvious that the shepherd boy hears it too? This Christmas carol makes me think of how we can all be exposed to the same words, but not really hear them. We all have ears to hear, but we have to actively chose to listen to the Spirit to understand.

In What the Bible Says About the Holy Spirit, Dr. Horton states, “We do not need to guess or imagine what is in the mind of God, for the Holy Spirit which we have received is of God ‘that we may understand what God has freely given us’ (I Corinthians 2:12). Paul included his readers here. The same certainty of truth the Paul received from the Holy Spirit is available to every believer.”
